Beech Mountain

Beech Mountain

This past weekend, Tillis and I + his family jumped in a van and headed north (we are all Florida people so anything past Georgia is north). 8 hours and a million potty breaks later and we were in Banner Elk North Carolina, the cutest little town at the base of some beautiful southern mountains. In my 25 years I have never seen so much snow, or put on skis so this was definitely an adventure. We rented a lodge style cabin (pictures below) and spent two days on the slopes. Day one we went to Sugar Mountain, the closest place to ski for us Floridians! Of course as soon as we rolled in the flurries started and we all didn't know what to do with ourselves, but it was a magical site. After a day of literal ups and downs on the slopes, we headed into Boone, NC home to App State and some super yummy homestyle cooking at the Dan'l Boone Inn.

Day two we jumped back in the van and went winding up another mountain to Beech Ski Resort, one of the prettiest places I have ever been too. I am one to say how much I love the ocean, but man was it cool to see a completely white frosted village with snowflakes falling all around us. This day I decided to sit out from the slopes and soaked in all the sights, I can't believe how beautiful it was. Tillis is pretty much a pro, so it was nice to see him have some fun and then come inside to tell me about the beauty he saw at the very top. Beech Mountain has multiple slopes, restaurants, tubing, and ice skating so it was a perfect way to spend the whole day. Whenever I go on a trip I always get to comparing it to home, and while I love my little beach house I could definitely fall in love with these mountains. There is something about the way the roads flow and all the homes are beautifully settled into every twist and turn. All the tiny towns in the valleys were so warm and cute I felt like I has just walked off the set of Gilmore Girls and had a cup of coffee with Rory and Lane. I am so lucky to get to explore these other little corners of our world.

Now for the best part......don't even get me started on this cabin!!!! Outside was beautiful (see header photo) but inside OMG! Four bedrooms, kitchen, basement, porch, fireplace, tubs...the list goes on and on about this place. We were lucky to find a place to fit our crew for the trip and these place just outdid itself, Tillis and I snagged a room overlooking the trees and the mountains in the distance so we woke up to views on views everyday. It was spectacular. The mountains are always calling....and I am so glad that many times we get to go and see these beautiful things. a little change of view and a little change of perspective.

xoxo.
